Zenzele is a filmmaker, editor, and interdisciplinary artist born in Texas, raised in
Georgia, with maternal/paternal grandparents from Alabama and Louisiana. As a narrative filmmaker, she explores her family's generational connection to the American South through metaphor. Her work spans from the earliest accounts of her family's lives by Agatha Babineaux (her great-great-great grandmother) to her own uncanny coming-of-age in the early 2000s American South. Zenzele is also a 2020 Sundance Ignite Fellow and 2023 SFFILM Rainin Grant recipient. Her award-winning short films have screened at SXSW, Sundance, and MoMA, and been acquired by Showtime. She is currently developing her debut feature, an expansion of her Sundance-supported short film The South Is My Sister's Skin.
Zenzele's work as an editor is influenced by her early fascination with collage. She currently works as a lead editor at Translation, LLC, cutting social and broadcast advertising campaigns, and as a freelance editor for Goldcrest Films on long-form podcast and documentary projects.
She holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where she studied as a Dean's Fellow in the Graduate Film program.
